I thought we saw their full skeletons, but oh well. It probably won't matter anyway.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Yeah but can't really tell how big they are compared to Kong other than their heads.
Though I'm sure some fanatics have already done calculations for it.

Actually not sure it was really confirmed it was his parents bones we saw since his whole species was wiped out aside from him.

I think John C. Reilly's character said it's his parents but...how would he know, they were dead when he got there.

Overall with this movie I'm glad they just got to the point and didn't bother wasting hours repeating what the Peter Jackson movie did, yes we know the indigenous people treat Kong like a God, more punching plz.
Movie delivered. Awesome.

The Lord of the Dark

Back from watching this movie, thought it was pretty awesome when it came to what mattered, but it left me wanting more, which I like.

It's more of an action movie and it feels a lot like the 70s Kong in many ways, from the way Kong looks (although he looks more like what Jackson's Kong was going to look like) to the fact that it takes place during the Vietnam era.

Kong himself looked really cool, and the way he fought against these new enemies (no Gaw unfortunately, but eh) was pretty awesome aswell. The Skull Crawlers were this movie's MUTOs, though definetely taking less inspirations from classic Godzilla villains, the only King Kong foe who shows up once again is the giant octopus, much bigger this time yet still not much of a challenge, maybe you'll do some more damage next time, Ock.

Although, as I mentioned in a previous post, the Skull Crawlers look like a certain background one-legged lizard from the 30s movie, so that's cool. Would've liked seeing something more unique from the big one though, the other animals from Skull Island were more interesting and cool-looking imo. And I wanted to see that giant ant too :T_T:

The characters were enjoyable, but pretty flat. With the exception of the ones that get the most screen-time (excluding Chapman) it was pretty obvious they were all going to die. Hank Marlow (played by John C. Reilly) was the one I liked the most by far, he's the only one I wanted to see get out of there alive and I'm glad he did cause he deserved it. It was cool seeing him make bonds with his enemy, which is something I would've liked seeing over some of this movie, cause it was pretty slow.

The 2005 movie kept things interesting with each scene, this one had plenty of scenes that could've been better, and the characters, being part of an action movie, didn't get as fleshed out as they probably should've. King Kong himself disappointed me the most. It would've been so easy to make him more sympathetic, given the fact that he lost his parents. If only we could've seen him in that graveyard, looking down at them, maybe even protecting their resting place. I wanted more tragedy to come out of him, but instead we got a brawler type Kong, and he's not half bad, using trees and propellers attached to chain as weapons, which was cool.

I'd probably watch it again just for the monster fights.

Piccolo: Just how many people have you sacrificed?!

Cell: Sacrifice? Hmph, rubbish! On the contrary, it is an honor to become a fraction of my power.

Yeah seeing some of Marlow and his friend in the past would have been cool but at the same time it's not that necessary.

Maybe they'll go back to that in later movies to reveal relevant details about Kong and the island. Surely Marlow will appear again in the present day movies, old obviously.

Now that Godzilla surfaced the military can't hide monsters from the world so there's reason for his experience to be brought forth I guess.

It's a damn shame that Bryan Cranston's character was offed in Godzilla. He and Marlow would have been cool together, though who knows maybe they were in contact already.

I actually kind of preferred this version of Skull Island, there was a lot more subtlety to how different it was. Just seemed like a regular place...right up until a giant spider shoves it's leg down your throat.
Made more sense as an ecosystem too, with such powerful predators around things would need to evolve to stay hidden.

What are you replying to with that?

There's nothing about its ecosystem that makes sense. We see buffalos and deer still exist on the planet just fine, which boggles the mind given they should be outcompeted or outcompeting the animals competing for the same niche. How have the super predators on the island not torn their population to shreds? Especially the Skullcrawlers, who kill for the lolz apparently. The squid is completely boned for a source of consistent food barring maybe ambushing the giant buffalos, but that'd be far from a consistent source of food.

I said made more sense not made sense.

It certainly makes more sense than hundreds of Diplodocus-like dinosaurs somehow existing in the 2005...on cliffs and with the sheer amount of active predators on that version of Skull Island.

This one makes sense because it seemed like an actual habitable landscape and there weren't things literally everywhere.

Fairly sure the squid could eat plenty of other aquatic creatures that ought to be in and around the island that we just never saw.

But f*** knows how the Skull Crawlers work. Maybe they need to be underground a lot of the time to feed off of radiation or something, a decent in world explanation. They didn't really cover that in this movie with their lack of knowledge.

You can't really compare the two films in that regard because the 2005 movie wasn't aiming for that, it was trying to show off how dangerous Skull Island was.

I know, I just prefer this one as a landscape and ecosystem. It felt unique and real.
2005's was a creepy danger land, a snake pit of predators feeding off of everything.

Wouldn't it be weird if Legendary's other monster series with Dracula and whatnot was also a part of this?

Dracula vs Kong vs The Mummy vs Godzilla

What a potentially epic mess that would be.
